AMA Pro Racing Announces Confirmed Dates on 2013 AMA Pro Hillclimb Schedule
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 10, 2013) - AMA Pro Racing is pleased to announce eight confirmed events on the 2013 AMA Pro Hillclimb schedule. In addition to the confirmed events listed below, AMA Pro Racing is working on the final details for additional events which will be announced in the near future as part of the final 2013 AMA Pro Hillclimb schedule.
All of the AMA Pro Hillclimb events in 2013 will once again offer nitro-fueled action from the Xtreme and Unlimited Classes, and the factory-based Pro Sport Class will also be featured alongside the premier classes in all eight rounds listed below. Additionally, select events on the calendar will give fans the opportunity to catch the excitement of an exhibition Hill-X. The large number of new, up-and-coming riders will take on the experienced veterans all year, which will likely make 2013 one of the toughest seasons of AMA Pro Hillclimb competition ever seen.
"Thanks to the huge strides made in 2012, we're in a great position to build the sport to even greater heights next season and expect to get even more exposure, industry support and corporate partnership for the sport, the teams and our incredible riders," said Amanda Campbell, a representative of AMA Pro Hillclimb's marketing department. "The professionalism of the sport and the athletes is the highest it has ever been and will continue to grow thanks to the deep talent pool and their dedication to the sport. Together we're paving a road that for the future of the sport and we are determined to make 2013 the most successful season yet."
Starting things off with a bang, the month of June will be action packed and there are four events scheduled to get the year's Hillclimb racing activity going. On June 2, 2013, White Rose Motorcycle Club in York County, Jefferson, Pa. will once again play host to the AMA Pro Hillclimb opener as the series kicks off the season on a hill which includes a unique feature, a turn. At the 2012 season opener, fans witnessed 2011 Champions Nate Redmann and Jay Sallstrom take the Xtreme and Unlimited Class wins, respectively, while Rookie Chris Chartier, Jr. took the win in the Pro Sport Class. Another rider that is ready to top the charts again is John Koester, who got his first career win at the final round of 2012 and can be expected to pick things up right where he left off.
Next up on June 9, 2013 the series will make a stop at Bushkill Valley Motorcycle Club in Freemansburg, Pa., located just outside of Allentown and Bethlehem. This 500-foot hill never disappoints the fans, as events here have historically featured lots of speed, thrills and spills. This event will mark the first time in 2013 that the fans will bear witness to the awesome racing action of Hill-X, featuring Pro Sport 450 bikes with the Expert riders aboard.
On June 12, 2013, AMA Pro Hillclimb will then thunder into Laconia Bike Week in Canaan, N.H. for the second-annual Shawn P. Farnsworth Memorial Race. This unique Wednesday event is scheduled on the traditional date for hillclimb races held during the bike week. Last year fans caught some incredible racing action in Canaan and the 2013 rendition, which will also feature a Hill-X exhibition race, is expected to draw an even better crowd.
On the date of June 22, 2013, Dayton Motorcycle Club is scheduled to host a unique Saturday night event at the Staircase to the Heavens in Oregonia, Ohio, where fans will be treated to the nighttime spectacle of bikes racing under the lights. The addition of the Pro Sport Class to this event in 2013 will allow the younger riders to showcase the speed of the factory 450 machines with paddle tires. This event will also include a Hill-X exhibition, and the first bike will hit the hill at 7 p.m.
After a short break, AMA Pro Hillclimb will race in conjunction with another bike week on July 14th in West Branch, Mich. Starting the Ogemaw Hills Bike Week, the event is set to pull in a large crowd of bikers and the series is ready to get them pumped for the week of racing to follow.
"We are looking to make a few changes to the hill in West Branch this year in order to provide a greater show for the fans," said Scott Campbell, president of the Professional Hillclimbers Association ("PHA"), rider body of AMA Pro Hillclimb. "I plan to work closely with the local promoter to facilitate these changes."
There are several exciting prospects for August events on the horizon, details of which will be announced as a part of the final 2013 AMA Pro Hillclimb schedule in the weeks to come.
On September 8, 2013 the series will return to Pennsylvania for the Bushkill Valley MC National, another event set to feature the Hill-X division. Following that round, White Rose MC will complete the Bike Week event tour during the White Rose Thunder Bike Week on September 29, 2013. Last season was the inaugural year for that event and the combination of Bike Week and AMA Pro Hillclimb proved to be a successful pairing.
At the Dayton MC in Oregonia, Ohio in 2012, we saw the career of one of the series greats come to a close, as Tiger Strank officially retired from AMA Pro Hillclimb after a long and storied career. His eight National Titles aboard Dr. Bob's Yamahas made him a fan favorite in the sport at every round, and his final event was once he shared with many of those that he shared his career with. The 2013 AMA Pro Hillclimb season will wrap up here on October 13, 2013, meaning that the Devil's Staircase is yet again where Championships, and the coveted number one plates that go along with them, will be awarded. The beautiful fall foliage of Ohio provides the perfect complement to the nitro methane filling the air and the roaring motors echoing in the valley as the season draws to a close, and if last year's intensity is any indication, the riders in every class will be battling it out until the very end.
